The "3S" interpretation in industrial and commercial energy storage system

Aug.13.2024

01 BMS
BMS, the battery management system, is an important part of the energy storage system responsible for the comprehensive management of the battery to ensure the safe operation of the battery.

1. Monitoring: BMS obtains battery status and performance information through real-time monitoring of battery voltage, current, temperature and other parameters. This helps detect battery faults or anomalies in a timely manner and provides accurate prediction of battery status.
2. Control: BMS can control the charging and discharging process of the battery according to the needs of the energy storage system. It ensures that the battery operates within the appropriate temperature range and limits parameters such as current and voltage to protect the battery from damage from overcharging and discharging or overload.
3. Balance: BMS can also balance the charge differences between individual cells within the battery pack to ensure that each cell can be charged and discharged equally. This reduces the imbalance between batteries and improves the overall capacity and life of the energy storage system.
4. Protection: BMS plays a key protection role in energy storage systems. It can monitor the operating temperature, current, voltage and other parameters of the battery, and take measures when an anomaly is detected, such as disconnecting the power supply or issuing an alarm to avoid potential dangers such as overheating, overcharging or overdischarging the battery.
These functions can further improve the performance, safety and life of the energy storage system, thus ensuring the long-term safe operation of the system.

02 EMS
EMS, the energy management system, is the core of the entire energy storage system, responsible for data acquisition, data analysis and energy scheduling to ensure the energy balance and normal operation of the energy storage system.
EMS can monitor the status of energy storage system equipment (such as PCS, BMS, electricity meters, fire protection, air conditioning, etc.) in real time, and realize the optimal allocation and scheduling of energy through economic operation strategy and security protection strategy. Whether it is a small and medium-sized industrial and commercial energy storage system or a larger source grid side energy storage system, EMS plays a vital role.

03 PCS
PCS is the energy storage converter, which is the core component to realize the bidirectional flow of electric energy between the energy storage system and the power grid, and is responsible for controlling the charging and discharging process of the battery, and performing AC/DC transformation.
PCS is composed of DC/AC bidirectional converter, control unit, etc. The PCS controller receives EMS control instructions through communication and controls the converter to charge or discharge the battery according to the instructions. At the same time, the PCS controller communicates with the BMS through the CAN interface to obtain the status information of the battery pack, which can realize the protective charging and discharging of the battery and ensure the safe operation of the battery.
At present, industrial and commercial energy storage systems cover 50kW/100kWh, 125kW/233kWh, 200kW/372kWh and other power segments, set energy storage batteries, self-developed BMS, EMS, PCS in one, flexible deployment, to achieve design, installation and operation and maintenance of minimalist, high efficiency.

Sum up
All in all, as the core components of industrial and commercial energy storage systems, BMS, EMS, PCS are related to the performance and use of the entire energy storage system, so a comprehensive understanding of the functions and roles of these three components, and reasonable configuration and optimization of the collaborative work between them will help achieve the best performance and sustainability of industrial and commercial energy storage systems.
